Summers in Ketchikan Alaska are what brought me here as a child growing up. I was blessed to be able to come to Ketchikan every summer from the age of 12 living with my mom, dad, and my brother. I saw and did what most people could only dream about. I became hooked on fishing, hunting, and hiking in this breathtaking place. Dad often took me flying in his helicopter on runs to remote islands, logging, mining, and fish camps.

Forty years later Jen & I decided to build some cabins that became more like dream homes so we could get away from the busy lower 48. These homes turned out better than we anticipated so we decided to open these up to the public as vacation rentals for all to enjoy. Ketchikan summers are known for Fishing! This is the salmon capital of the world! We have some of the strongest runs of king, silver, pink, and sockeye salmon in Southeast Alaska! Bottom fishing is like no other, from Halibut in the range from 13 to 300 lbs. is a common thing! The best eating sizes are in the 10-60 lb. range.

Cod of every species are plentiful, giant ling cod along the rocky pinnacles are waiting like monsters for your jig to present them with the meal they so desire! Shrimping and crabbing are very popular and doesn’t take a lot of effort but keying in on the right depth and bottom structure will help fill the freezers for sure. Hiking, biking, kayaking, and canoeing are just a small part of the endless things going on during these long summer days. The annual blueberry festival draws outsiders from all over as this event takes over nearly the entire downtown area of Ketchikan. Other popular activities including helicopter tours, and float plane excursions are popular this time of year.
The ones that might fear flying usually go on a whale watching or bear viewing excursion. Downtown Ketchikan in the summer can have as many as 7 cruise ships in ports at one time, this means that up to 18,000 people (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) disembark and the local streets are filled with tourists shopping at the nearly 120 local shops and eateries Ketchikan has to offer. Rain or shine Ketchikan is a beautiful town on the water’s edge encircled by huge, majestic mountains. When you first arrive, it takes a while to soak in this oasis of Alaska’s first city!
